Delft, the Netherlands - The Proficient Indonesian Muslims Association (PRIMA) launched an international journal, the Journal of Islamic Perspective on Science, Technology and Society (JISTECS), coinciding with the international Sharia Economics Conference on February 9 in Hannover, Germany.
"Research in many fields has been increasingly progressive since the last century, but without spiritual values that less enlightened human civilization," editor in chief of JISTECS Dr. Cahyo Budiman M.Eng said here Tuesday.
He explained JISTECS is a unique journal because it provides an opportunity for scientists of inter-disciplines and -beliefs around the world to publish their works on science and technology, and their use to the public within the framework of Islamic thought.
"Although the journal contains Islamic thoughts, JISTECS does not restrict researchers from various faiths to contribute," Cahyo, who is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Japan, said.
According to him, it is possible because Islam is a system of life that its implementation and development cover the global community regardless of religion, faith, ethnicity, and ideology, he added.
Regarding the scope of the discipline of science published in JISTECS, the lecturer at the Faculty of Husbandary Science, Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), explained it covers natural science, politics, economics, law and others.
Before being published by JISTECS, the scripts which are submitted to the editors will go through a review by expert editors coming from different educational and research institutions in the world such as Dr M Hakki Alma from Kahramanmaras Sütçü Imam University, Turkey, Dr Heny Budi Utari from Mahidol University, Thailand and Dr Abdul Hannan from Imperial College London, UK for the field of natural sciences and mathematics.
As for the field of engineering, the scripts will be reviewed among others by Dr Fahmi Amhar from Geospatial Information Agency, Indonesia, Dr Mohammed G. Khatib from NEC Laboratories America, USA, Dr Md. Rafiqul Islam of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Dr Ahmad Shiozaki Yuki from Doshisha University, Japan, Dr Valeed Ahmad Ansari of Aligarh Muslim University, India, and Dr. Abdul Azim Islahi from King Abdul-Aziz University, Saudi Arabia are among the expert editors for social sciences. (*)
